01

Start with your group

Choosing a vacation home starts with a few practical questions. Where will your group spend its time? Who needs a separate bedroom? Which features will you actually use? A home that looks right in a photo still needs to fit the way you plan to travel.

Use this checklist to compare your options before you commit. Keep the listing open as you go, and save any questions that the description does not answer.

Write down how many adults and children are traveling, then compare that number with the home’s stated guest limit. Next, look at the sleeping arrangements. A bedroom count alone does not tell you how many separate beds are available or whether someone would be sleeping in a shared space.

Think about privacy, too. Two families may want different arrangements from a group of friends. If someone needs a bedroom on the main floor, check the layout directly. Photos can help you understand a room, but they should not be used to assume step-free access or other accessibility features.

02

Match the location to your plans

Build a short list of the places you expect to visit. Compare each home’s stated location with that list, rather than relying on a broad description such as “near the parks.”

Check the route to the particular destination you mean. An attraction entrance, parking area and wider resort complex may be different points on a map. Leave room in your schedule for changing travel conditions, and avoid building an itinerary around a single estimated drive time.

03

Separate home features from community features

A private pool and a shared community pool offer different experiences. So do a game room inside the house and recreation facilities elsewhere in a resort. Read the listing carefully enough to know which space belongs to the home.

For shared facilities, check whether your reservation includes access and whether there are any conditions you need to understand. A property’s community name does not answer every question about what a guest can use.

04

Look closely at the features you care about

Make a short list of essentials and a separate list of extras. That helps you avoid choosing a home around one attractive feature while overlooking something more important to your group.

If pool heat matters, check whether it is offered for that home and how to request it. If you plan to cook, look for the kitchen details that affect your meals. For any feature that is essential to your stay, get a clear answer before booking instead of treating an unanswered question as a yes.

05

Compare the same trip

Use the same arrival date, departure date and guest count when comparing prices. A quote for a different stay can make one option look cheaper without offering the same thing.

Review the total shown for your trip and the terms attached to it. Check which items are included, which are optional and whether anything is payable separately. Save the quote and the conditions you reviewed so you can refer to them later.

06

Read the conditions before you pay

Check the cancellation terms, arrival and departure information, guest rules and payment details that apply to the home you selected. Do not assume a policy from another property or booking channel applies to this reservation.

Finally, check the status of your booking. A submitted request, a payment step and a confirmed reservation are different stages. Keep the confirmation and follow the instructions provided for your stay.
